According to Carlton legend Robert Walls, Sydney Swan Isaac Heeney could be the best player over the next decade.
The current decade has been dominated by the likes of Gary Ablett Jr and Buddy Franklin, and Heeney is beginning to show signs he could become the games next greatest player.
Heeney, 22, has had four seasons in the AFL since making his debut in 2015 where he has played 77 games for the Swans.
Walls comments come after the midfielders superior performance in the Swans tight win over Melbourne last Sunday, where he racked up 19 disposals, kicked two goals and laid numerous tackles.
Heeney was thrown behind the ball in the final quarter where he took three critical marks, including a stunning grab which is being talked about as mark of the year, to help guide Sydney to the nine-point win.
Walls believes Heeney has what it takes to overtake fellow competitors Patrick Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe and Dustin Martin as the games best player for the next 10 years.
“I’m a bit loathed to say this, but he could be the player of the next decade,” Walls said on AFL Tonight on Monday
“He can play up forward, he can read the play in defence, he is an A-grade midfielder and he is just an animal in as far as being hungry for the football," Wall said.
“I’m a super fan of his.”
The former premiership coach has commended Swans coach John Longmire for rolling the dice and putting Heeney down back over the last fortnight, as Sydney claim two massive wins in their fight for the finals.
Walls explained Heeney reads the play perfectly.
"I’ve seen that two weeks in a row now when the game has been in the balance, John Longmire has moved Heeney back and he has been terrific,” Walls said.
“That to me is just about the mark of the year.
“He was also desperate; he put a couple of really good spoils on in desperate situations.”
