Former Geelong star Steve Johnson has shown his new teammates that he still has what it takes, impressing in today's intra-club match.

Johnson kicked one goal and and set up several others, earning praise from coach Leon Cameron.

โ€œSometimes itโ€™s hard to get stimulated for experienced players but in Steveโ€™s case I thought he was good,โ€ Cameron said.

โ€œHis quality ball use and his ability to hit targets going forward is what makes him such a clever player, you could clearly see on three or four occasions today it helped us score. He is starting to form some synergy among our young forwards.โ€

Young injury plagued forward Jon Patton also impressed, while midfielder Ryan griffin kicked three goals in the first half and had plenty of the ball.

โ€œGriffen was the stand out in the first half,โ€ Cameron said.

โ€œHeโ€™s dropped four or five kilograms, heโ€™s in a good space and heโ€™s covering the ground well. He is looking to really stamp his authority going forward this year.โ€

The Giants play their first NAB Challenge match against the Western Bulldogs in Canberra on Thursday February 25.
