Carlton's desire to add flair and dash off half back has resulted in the club garnering interest in West Coast speedster Marcus Herbert.
The Eagles selected Herbert in this year's mid-season draft after multiple strong years with Geelong's VFL outfit.
The 23-year-old has made an immediate impact in the west, playing seven games, including back-to-back 30-plus disposal matches in the past fortnight.
According to AFL Media, West Coast has tabled a one-year extension to Herbert.
The Blues have yet to commit to veteran rebounders Zac Williams and Adam Saad.
Football boss Chris Davies said Carlton will continue overhauling its list, as it did last year, headed by the departure of Charlie Curnow, Jack Silvagni and Tom De Koning.
"As much as I think that our list is more balanced than it was last year, I still don't think the list is good enough, ultimately, to compete at the top level," Davies said on SEN in May.
"And we're going to have to do some work on that over the next period of time. We started that last year with trading out the players that we did, or letting them go in free agency.
"We're well-placed from a draft capital standpoint to get Cody Walker in, and do some other things into the future, but I want to make sure that we're bringing in some young talent which is going to be required for us to be a sustainable force up the top end of the ladder."
Clubs like Richmond, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs displayed interest in Herbert in the lead-up to the mid-season intake.
He was drafted out of Geelong and South Warrnambool.
