St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt has concerns about his former club's pursuit of delisted free agent Jake Stringer despite his on-field dominance.
Stringer is set to sign with the Saints after he departed the Giants following two seasons, with questions over whether he's a good culture fit.
Riewoldt understands why the Moorabbin club went after the opportunistic forward, who slotted 48 goals in 2026, as Ross Lyon desperately needs front-half firepower.
"He kicked 48 goals last year, and the Saints need goal kickers, which is why they're going down this path," Riewoldt said on Triple M.
"They haven't given up on Max King, but he's played a quarter in two years. But it speaks to the desperation in front of the ball. There were times last year when their biggest issue was that they couldn't capitalise on momentum and opportunity. They didn't have match winners.
"Why would the Giants let go of a 48-goal forward when they were already losing Jesse Hogan? Why is he not playing at Greater Western Sydney?
"It would have to be a one-year deal. As a supporter, this is hold-your-breath stuff. No (he's not a good culture fit).
"Everyone speaks about the pressure at Moorabbin next year. Hopefully he goes down there and kicks another 48 goals. But you don't know how it's going to go. It's his fourth club. Fourth club for a reason.
"Hopefully it pays off for the Saints."
Stringer will join his fourth AFL club of his career after he started at the Western Bulldogs with Pick 5 in the 2012 draft.
He helped deliver the Bulldogs the 2016 premiership and was an All-Australian in his third season in the AFL.
But Stringer was moved to Essendon, where he spent seven years before taking up a two-year offer at the Giants.
