Suspended Richmond defender Bachar Houli has written a passionate Facebook post defending AFL diversity manager and personal friend, Ali Fahour.

Fahour, who plays for West Preston-Lakeside in the Northern Football League (NFL), was reported for punching an opponent in a sickening incident on the weekend.

The AFL employee gave a character reference for Houli in his tribunal case last week, as Houli initially escaped with a two-match ban, before the AFL appealed the verdict and subsequently doubled his penalty.

Fahour will front the NFL tribunal on Wednesday night, with a ban greater than 10 weeks reportedly set to end his playing career given some previous suspensions.

In Houli's Facebook post, he stated Fahour "made a mistake an error of judgement and knows full well that these actions like mine are not acceptable."

The Tiger said Fahour was a person of the "highest character", and said no matter the result, the pair would still be brothers.
