Port Adelaide forward Charlie Dixon almost donned a West Coast jumper over the weekend.

In what would have been an unusual sight, the Power star was on the cards to line up for the Eagles' WAFL side after Port Adelaide and West Coast made a deal to help get the 31-year-old back on the field as soon as possible.

A bye round in the SANFL meant playing a game for West Coast's reserves side was one of a few ways for Dixon to get game time as he continues his recovery following ankle surgery earlier in the year.

According to 7 News Adelaide, Port ultimately decided not to test Dixon's fitness and rested him a further week, with the forward looking likely to make his return to first-team action as early as this week.

Dixon is on the cards to play against Geelong on Saturday, but will more than likely continue to make a run in the lower levels if he doesn't suit up for Round 10.

Dixon has played one game in the SANFL so far, kicking a goal while managing eleven disposals and two marks.

In the WAFL, West Coast and East Fremantle found an opportunity to play their postponed round four match during the bye week, with the Sharks winning in a landslide.

The Eagles' reserves side continued to struggle due to further COVID-19 issues. Entering the game with only three AFL listed players, the struggling side were forced to borrow players from the opposition in order to field enough players to compete.

East Fremantle players Sam Emery and Sam Medland were the two who suited up for West Coast to replace the injured Logan Young and the isolating Jed Kemp.

The difficulties have trickled down from their AFL squad, who have had their own list severely hindered due to injury and COVID complications.

This week will see West Coast's senior side face Greater Western Sydney at Giants Stadium on Sunday, while their reserves will travel to West Perth as they continue to chase their first win of the season.
