Iconic Australian children's music group The Wiggles will perform pre-game at the Gold Coast and Essendon Opening Round clash.

The well-loved band have reached world stardom with their highly-acclaimed children's hits and have been established since 1991. Currently consisting of eight band members, including original Wiggle Anthony Field, The Wiggles continue to be one of Australia's most celebrated entertainment groups.

Currently Australia's top-ranked local artist on Spotify, The Wiggles has sold more than 30 million albums.

With a line-up consisting of Lachie Gillespie (Purple Wiggle) and Caterina Mete (Red Wiggle), as well as Dorothy the Dinosaur as DJ, The Wiggles are set to perform a high-energy pre-game show before next Saturday night's match gets underway.

Gold Coast midfielder Lachie Weller spoke on the excitement of securing the renowned band.

โ€œI grew up listening to the Wiggles and now as a dad of two, it's amazing to see my kids and the next generation continuing to adore their music and entertainment,โ€ Weller said.

Purple Wiggle Gillespie, who is an avid AFL fan, was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to perform.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be performing at the Opening Round match at People First Stadium,โ€ Gillespie said.

โ€œAs a huge AFL fan, who has been playing since the age of six, there's nothing better than bringing music and footy together to kick off an incredible season.

โ€œI can't wait to see the energy of the crowd and be part of such a special moment!โ€

Pre-match entertainment begins at 3:45pm local time, with the Suns and Bombers kicking off their season half an hour later.
