Former Saint and Swan Dan Hannebery has stoked the flames of a potential return to AFL circles less than a month after hanging up his boots.
Hannebery represented both Sydney and St Kilda across the course of 14 seasons but announced his retirement ahead of the Round 23 clash between the pair after being hampered by several spurious soft tissue injuries.
Turning out before Channel Nine cameras on The Sunday Footy Show, Hannebery was quizzed on his status following Damien Barrett's revelations that there had been some interest in the triple All-Australian's services.
When posed the question about whether he still had a desire to compete at the highest level, the midfielder failed to rule out a possible comeback.
“To be honest, I’m not too sure,” Hannebery said in response.
“It’s been a tough four years, both mentally and physically.
“We put a lot of work in, but I felt we got it right at the end there.
“I haven’t really spoken too much to my manager about it or thought too much about it.”
After just three weeks of retirement, the 31-year-old claimed that his body was feeling better, despite managing just 18 games across his last quartet of campaigns.
“I’m enjoying retirement, albeit for three weeks but we’ll see how we go,” Hannebery said.
“I’m trying not to blow out too much.
“I’ve been for a few runs so far and I feel okay.
“I’d have to think about it, but at this stage, the body feels pretty good.
“Diplomatically, I’ll say that I’m retired for the moment.”
Although Hannebery's final season at Moorabbin yielded just three outings in red, white and black, the premiership winner managed means of 22 disposals, 5 clearances, 4.6 inside 50s and 2.6 tackles.
Hannebery is represented by Connors Sports Management whose chief of staff, Paul Connors, hinted that the upcoming exchange period would be a busy one.
