Unsigned Gold Coast gun Matt Rowell has answered questions on his looming contract call as rival clubs prepare to make a play for the Suns midfielder.

Speculation surrounding Rowell's future at Carrara was heightened after his meeting with Geelong over the off-season came to light, with the Cats expected to be joined by Collingwood, Essendon and the Western Bulldogs in showing interest in the 23-year-old onballer.

Rowell's signature looms as the next major retention target after the club re-signed Mac Andrew (2030), Charlie Ballard (2029), Ned Moyle (2028) and Ben Ainsworth (2028) last year alone.

Their former No.1 draft pick remains an integral piece in Damien Hardwick's plans, with Rowell hoping to take the Suns to September in 2025.

Football remains his priority, with Rowell - who believes he's likely to recommit to the club - giving little attention to his contract situation.

"I'm not worrying about that at the moment," Rowell said of his decision on Monday.

"I am focusing on training well and getting ready for the season. I am committed to the Suns and focused on the season coming up.

"I think [I'm likely to re-sign]. Obviously, that will just happen when we get to it, but I am just worried and focussed about the season coming up and winning our first game."

His close mate and new captain Noah Anderson remains confident the Suns bull will remain with the Queensland club.

"It's not unsettling. At the end of the day it's a business and he's a really good player. These conversations are gonna happen," Anderson said of Rowell's situation last week.

"I've got extreme confidence that he loves coming to the footy club and loves playing footy for this club. The connections he has here are so strong.

"It's on me and the club's responsibility to create an environment and team that he wants to play for, which I'm pretty confident will happen."

Rowell will support Anderson as a member of Gold Coast's leadership group for the first time in his career, with the pair entering their sixth season with the Suns.

The 2019 No.1 pick has played 85 games for the club and amassed 25 Brownlow votes last year to finish equal seventh overall.
