Following a trade chase that included a third of the competition, GWS midfielder James Peatling has named Adelaide as his desired landing spot ahead of next week's trade period.
Peatling had fetched reported interest from Collingwood, West Coast, Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and the Crows in recent weeks, while GWS were seen as a strong chance to retain the local product.
Strong form across the second half of the 2024 season saw Peatling's value increase significantly as his contract nears its end, with the dynamic midfielder polling a perfect 10 coaches votes against Brisbane in Round 22 and a further six a fortnight prior in a win over Melbourne.
The chase for Peatling narrowed as Monday's trade period opening neared, with the Crows, Dogs and Giants seen as the last three clubs in the mix for the 24-year-old's signature.
Peatling has now informed GWS of his desire to join Adelaide this off-season, with the club confirming the trade request on Thursday.
"GIANTS midfielder James Peatling has informed the club he wishes to be traded to the Adelaide Crows," a short club statement began.
"The 24-year-old has played 45 games for the club since being drafted as a mid-season rookie selection in 2021."
Peatling is off-contract but is not eligible for free agency, meaning a deal will need to be struck between the two clubs. Adelaide holds Picks 4, 25, 42, 60 for this year's AFL Draft.
A successful move to South Australia would see Peatling become the second Giant to make the switch to West Lakes, with GWS flanker Isaac Cumming set to join Adelaide as a free agent over the next week.
The Giants pair will also be joined by Melbourne forward Alex Neal-Bullen in landing at the Crows, with the South Australian also requesting a trade to Adelaide.
Free agency opens on Friday and will run for seven days, while the trade period commences on Monday and will finish at 7:30pm (AEST) on Wednesday, October 16.
