The AFL's pre-finals bye gives fans a chance to take a breath before a hectic month of football is set to commence.

However, there is no rest for the wicked in terms of the VFL, who, after their Wildcard Round last week, enter the first week of the finals.

Throughout the four matches across the weekend is a host of AFL stars returning from injury or selected to get some extra runs on the board.

Geelong have unveiled their VFL side to take on Werribee in this Saturday's Qualifying final at Avalon Airport Oval, naming six potential candidates for the Cats' senior side in next week's Qualifying final at the Adelaide Oval.

Sam De Koning and Gary Rohan headline the inclusions, while Mark O'Connor, Mitch Knevitt, Jed Bews, Brandan Parfitt, Ted Clohesy Oisin Mullin and Oscar Murdoch all fight to stake their claim.

Box Hill Hawks will face Williamstown Seagulls in an elimination final, where Hawthorn fans will see the likes of Changkuoth Jiath, Ned Reeves, Finn Maginness, Josh Ward and Chad Wingard.

The quintet will be looking to force their way into Sam Mitchell's side by next Friday as the Hawks take on the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.

The Bulldogs' reserves side will also feature in the VFL finals after securing second spot, taking on Brisbane at Whitten Oval on Saturday.

Footscray has named familiar faces Jason Johannisen, Caleb Poulter, Rhylee West, Arthur Jones, Buku Khamis and Riley Garcia in their line-up, with all featuring at the elite level in 2024.

The Lions will hope injured duo Jack Payne and Bruce Reville make themselves available for senior selection for their elimination final against Carlton the week after, while midfielders Harry Sharp and Deven Robertson would like to come into Chris Fagan's consideration.

Shadeau Brain will also be in the mix.
