Injury blow to Port Adelaide’s backline, star hampered on eve of finals

Not the outcome the Power had hoped for heading into their final game of the home and away season.

Port Adelaide's premiership prospects may have taken a hit as Kane Farrell was unable to play out Sunday's Round 24 clash with Fremantle due to injury.

A hamstring concern for Farrell forced his night to end abruptly, with the Power subbing their rebounding backman out of the match just minutes before the main break.

Farrell has missed just one game in 2024 - the Power's Round 19 clash with Richmond due to a minor hamstring concern. Even a low-grade strain could see Farrell miss his side's opening final, while a medium-grade strain places the rest of his season in some doubt.

Meanwhile, star backman Aliir Aliir was also hampered in the opening half before returning to the field.

Aliir was seen on the ground in pain in his side's defensive 50 following an innocuous incident off the ball during the second quarter of Sunday's affair. The Power tall was assisted from the field and ventured down into the Power's rooms minutes before half-time with a leg concern.

Aliir started the second half on the field, shaking off any concerns for the Power defender among fans.

The Power will face Geelong in a qualifying final in less than a fortnight, with that match to be played at Adelaide Oval after the Power claimed a win over the Dockers to end the regular season.

The Power could make multiple changes for their first final outside of the absence of Farrell, and potentially Aliir, with tall forwards Todd Marshall (concussion) and Charlie Dixon (illness) both missing the match against Fremantle.

Dixon was a late withdrawal from coach Ken Hinkley's side, with young ruckman Vigo Visentini taking his place in the 23-man squad.

That change followed two prior alterations for the Power, who lost All-Australian Dan Houston to suspension while Quinton Narkle was dropped for this weekend's game.
