Adelaide Crows midfielder Rory Laird will be monitored throughout the upcoming week after receiving an untimely injury during Saturday night's loss to GWS.

Laird is understood to be nursing an AC joint ailment, following a physical contest during the third quarter of Saturday's defeat at Adelaide Oval.

While Laird was able to play out the remainder of the game, he required assessment by Adelaide's medical team in the third quarter, disappearing to the rooms for a period of time as the Crows gained ascendency on the field.

Crows coach Matthew Nicks revealed post-game that his serial ball-getter will be closely examined throughout the week to determine the trajectory of the injury. It is currently unknown whether the midfielder will be sidelined because of the issue.

"'Lairdy' is okay," Nick told the media on Saturday evening. "But he took a knock, a bit sore through the AC joint. That'll be a monitor and see how he pulls up," Nicks said.

Laird's hindrance did not prevent him from impacting Saturday's fixture, collecting 33 disposals, 11 tackles, and a goal in an inspiring effort to try and will his side over the line.

Unfortunately for Laird and Adelaide, though, GWS proved the more cohesive unit in the final term, overcoming a slender three-quarter-time deficit in a low-scoring affair to emerge victorious and continue its unexpected finals assault under first-year coach Adam Kingsley.

The Giants triumphed without prolific midfielder Tom Green, who was excluded from Kingsley's side on Friday afternoon due to an unforeseen hamstring injury, as well as veteran utility Nick Haynes, who was suspended at the beginning of the week by the MRO for a dangerous tackle committed last weekend.

In Round 19, the Crows look to return to winning ways against Melbourne at the MCG, while GWS hosts the Gold Coast Suns at GIANTS Stadium.
