The Blues may have finally found a player the Cats are willing to part ways with, to complete Zach Tuohy's move to Geelong.
Carlton had shown strong interest in young midfielder, Darcy Lang, requesting the 20-year-old in exchange for wantaway defender Zach Tuohy.
However, the contracted Lang does not wish to be traded.
The Age reports that the Blues have now raised Billie Smedts as an alternative to Lang to complete Tuohy's move to Geelong.
Smedts has played 38 career games with the Cats since making his debut in 2012, but has struggled to play regular football due to several long term injuries.
The opportunity to join the Blues could appeal to Smedts as a chance to reignite his career after a wretched run with injuries at Geelong, since being selected with pick 15 in the 2010 National Draft.
However, he has the natural talent to be a valuable player at AFL level if he stays fit.
Meanwhile, Geelong is no closer to orchestrating a deal for Richmond star Brett Deledio, with the Tigers not budging on their request for Josh Caddy, while the Cats are adamant the onballer will not be leaving the club.
