Essendon forward Jake Stringer has sent a scare through the club after he hobbled off the training track on Thursday with a calf issue, as first reported by AFL Media's Callum Twomey.
He left the session clutching his calf, which was assessed by the club doctors before ultimately cutting his session short.
Last year, Stringer was restricted to 10 games due to a syndesmosis injury that was suffered in the Dons’ win over Collingwood.
At that stage, Stringer had kicked 10 goals in his first four matches of the season before the injury.
Upon his return, Stringer would only go on to add only five more to his season total in his other six matches.
Whilst it’s not known how much training he’ll miss, Twomey reports that the setback did not appear to be a serious one.
Stringer led Essendon in goal-kicking in both 2018 and ’19 seasons since moving over from the Western Bulldogs.
The departures of Joe Daniher and Shaun McKernan meant that there was going to be a little bit of extra pressure for Stringer to perform in 2021.
Stringer returned to pre-season on a modified training program and had only just returned training full-time.
