Josh Corbett, the 28-year-old Fremantle forward, has announced his retirement from the AFL.

The two-club 41-gamer fell out of contract with the demise of the Dockers' 2024 campaign and has made the call himself to step away, presumably without the offer of an extension by the club.

Originally from Warrnambool, Victoria, Corbett rose through the ranks to reach the bug league, impressing in the VFL with Werribee before being signed by the Gold Coast Suns in 2018 under the AFL's state league priority access.

Recruited and known for his strong aerial ability, Corbett spent four seasons with the Suns before being traded to Fremantle in 2022.

He made his AFL debut in 2019, kicking two goals in his first game - a 49-point loss to Brisbane. He would play nine total matches in his debut year, showing enough to stick around at the club.

His 2021 season looked to be a major step forward, setting career highs in every category, with 23 goals from 16 matches and even polling a Brownlow vote.

Unfortunately failing to maintain the growth, Corbett was sent to the other side of the country to join the Dockers, where he managed just five senior appearances in 2023.

Despite showing promise, injuries, including a hip surgery that sidelined him for 2024, seemingly were the catalyst for his early retirement from the game.
