The Adelaide Crows are reportedly having a "red-hot crack" at attracting former Collingwood football general manager Graham Wright into a role in their football department.

Adelaide CEO Tim Silvers reportedly formally met with the ex-Collingwood figure recently, as Silvers has over ten years of association with Wright from their time together at Hawthorn.

The role is set to be a mammoth "godfather" position in the football department, according to 7 News' Theo Doropoulos, with Wright's success as an off-field figure positioning him for an occupation with major responsibilities.

Wright was a part of Hawthorn's football department in their three-peat era between 2013-15, whilst also being a staple to Collingwood's premiership success last season.

Wright resigned from his duties at Collingwood this year following a sabbatical taken throughout the AFL home and away season. Initially set to resign in 2023, Wright was urged to take a vacation and return to his role afterwards, with the Magpies deeply valuing his contribution to the football department.

His departure for a trip abroad rocked Collingwood's staff however, and set off a domino effect of change, leading to instability that may have contributed to the Magpies' poorer on-field results.

"The game stops for no one. So Collingwood, in this situation, then changed everyone's roles. Assistant coaches changed their positions, Brendan Bolton changed his position, Justin Leppitsch changed his position. Too much change," Nine's Matthew Lloyd said in July.

The Crows are pursuing a strong figure to run the football department as the club still aims to reach finals for the first time since 2017. Despite landing stars Jordan Dawson and Izak Rankine in 2021 and 2022, Adelaide were quiet in last year's trade period, gaining Chris Burgess whilst losing Tom Doedee and Shane McAdam.

The Crows are set to land GWS defender Isaac Cumming and Melbourne midfielder-forward Alex Neal-Bullen, whilst they lost out on Jack Lukosius' preference to arch-rival Port Adelaide.
