An Irish import has reportedly earned a spot on Adelaide's rookie list following a successful train-on stint at West Lakes.

Monaghan's Karl Gallagher, who was scooped up by the Crows this pre-season after starring as a Gaelic footballer in Ireland, recently completed a three-week pre-Christmas training block with the Crows.

Gallagher, who first caught Adelaide's eye as a 17-year-old at an AFL Combine appearance in 2019, trained with the Crows in hopes of earning a Category B rookie list spot for the upcoming 2024 campaign.

After reporting training injuries to Adelaide pair Rory Sloane and Wayne Milera, 7News Adelaide's Josh Money declared Gallagher was "successful" in sticking with the Crows post-Christmas.

"They're (Sloane and Milera) both expected to be back after Christmas, [as] is Irishman Karl Gallagher, who received a rookie spot after a successful three-week trial," reported Money on Wednesday evening.

"He's got good speed, agility and a vertical leap, and has already done some work with Mark Keane in Ireland," Adelaide recruiting boss Hamish Ogilvie described of Gallagher upon his initial joining the Crows' fray.

"He was super impressive at the 2019 [AFL] Combine before Covid put a dampener on Irish recruiting for a couple of years.

"But we stayed in contact, followed his career and he has a good attitude and a thirst to have a go at a new challenge."

The Crows are yet to confirm Gallagher's extended stay officially.
