The second iteration of 'The Carlton Draft' has been announced, with Jonathan Brown to resume his role as Draft Commissioner as more ex-AFL stars join the team.

The Carlton Draft kicked off in 2022, with six former-AFL players drafted to local footy clubs for a one off match, helping to bring in much needed revenue in the wake of the pandemic.

After the likes of Dale Thomas, Jarryd Roughead and Brendon Goddard made an appearance last year, more former stars have stepped up for 2023.

Brownlow Medallist Nathan Buckley is set to headline this year's draft, which will be held in late April, bringing 280 games of AFL experience with him.

Joining Buckley will be four-time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis, and 200-gamer Bernie Vince. The remaining draftees are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Speaking to The Carlton Draft, Buckley said he was eager to pull on the boots once again.

“Local footy is the lifeblood of towns across Victoria, and to be able to play a role in bringing together a local community is something I am looking forward to," Buckley said.

“It is going to be a weird feeling being drafted again more than 30 years after being picked by the Brisbane Bears, but hopefully I will be able to dust away any cobwebs, get a couple of kicks and play my part in what will be a great day.”

Returning as commissioner, Brown highlighted the importance of the initiative for those grassroots clubs.

“The second iteration of The Carlton Draft continues Carlton Draught's longstanding tradition of supporting grassroots footy clubs," Brown said.

“We saw the impact that The Carlton Draft had on communities across Victoria last year, and to give six more lucky clubs the chance to have an ex-AFL legend lace up the boots for their club will be special.

“I think Bucks is in for a rude awakening when his game comes around, we know he keeps himself in good nick, so it is going to be fun to watch him run around and cop a few bumps along the way.”
