Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe is close to signing a new long-term contract extension with the Dockers.

The 25-year-old is one of the most sought after out-of-contract stars this upcoming off-season alongside Richmond's Dustin Martin and GWS' Josh Kelly, but Fyfe is now close to becoming the first player of the trio to sign a new deal.

Fyfe told Seven News Perth a deal is imminent, and could be announced in the coming weeks.

โ€œWhat I can say is my management and the club are in discussions,โ€ Fyfe told Basil Zempalis on Wednesday night.

โ€œNow that the CBAโ€™s been finalised, all parties are in a better position to be able to sit down and work it out.ย

โ€œIโ€™m quite hopeful that something can be done in the coming weeks.

"I think it's pretty close."

The 2015 Brownlow Medallist has been at Fremantle since 2010, and has grown into one of the club's most influential players.

Fyfe is determined to help the young Dockers grow this season, given his club have blooded six debutants over the opening 13 rounds.

โ€œWeโ€™re still a really ambitious group but we also understand that weโ€™re in a phase of education,โ€ Fyfe said.

โ€œItโ€™s exciting to see our first and second year players starting to blossom.

โ€œWeโ€™ll continuously to work on growth each week and see what the next nine weeks bring.โ€
