Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe has signed a massive six-year deal which will see him remain a Docker until at least the end of the 2023 season.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper on the longest deal in Fremantle's history, and is excited to stay out west for the next six years.

โ€œIโ€™m extremely grateful for the opportunity. Freo has been my home since the start of my career and Iโ€™ve since grown into a leadership role,โ€ Fyfe told fremantlefc.com.au.

โ€œI really love playing for the club and Iโ€™m really grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to be here for the next six years.โ€

The 2015 Brownlow Medallist says he wants to play in a premiership side, and believes he can help the Dockers break their premiership duck.

โ€œI think weโ€™ve got a group who are really willing to learn and arenโ€™t interested in waiting around for their careers to follow a natural trajectory,โ€ Fyfe said.

โ€œClearly, we want to deliver Fremantle their first premiership. Itโ€™s a really lofty and ambitious goal. Weโ€™re all going to work as hard as we can towards that.โ€

Fremantle general manager of list management Brad Lloyd said Fyfe's signature was an important step for the club's future.

โ€œWeโ€™re absolutely thrilled as a football club to get this long term commitment from Nat,โ€ Lloyd told the club's website.

โ€œIt was very clear throughout the process that Nat was firmly committed to staying at Fremantle.

โ€œWe feel that we have a really young exciting group coming through, who have come on throughout the 2017 season in particular. As captain, Nat is a key leader for those young players and the rest of the playing group, so itโ€™s a really pivotal step for where weโ€™re taking the club."

Fyfe's management confirmed the star midfielder was the subject of interest from a lot of other clubs around the competition, but admitted they never thought he was going to leave.

Jason Dover, from Stride Management, said once Fyfe confirmed he wanted to remain a Docker, the negotiations went smoothly.

โ€œNat had a lot of interest from other clubs but we never thought he would leave Fremantle. Once Nat had decided to stay the negotiation process with all parties was handled very professionally," Dover said.

"We believe the contract extension is a great result for both Nat and the club. The future is exciting for him to lead this young team into a new era."

Across his 132-game career, Fyfe has averaged 24.7 disposals, 4.0 tackles, 5.3 clearances and 4.4 marks a game.
