The AFL has announced a shift in the trade period, with the deadline to be moved up two days to a Wednesday night.

Last year, the trade period ended on a Friday at 2pm, although this season, it'll run from Monday October 8 at 10am, until Wednesday October 17 at 8.30pm.

The AFL National Draft will also become a two-day event, with the live trading of picks to also come into affect for the first time in history.

The draft will take place on November 22 and 23, with the first round of selections to be made on the Thursday night, before the remainder of the draft is completed the following day.

The event will take place in Melbourne for the first time since 2009.
