Collingwood midfielder Chris Mayne has signed a one-year extension, tying him to the club until the end of 2021.

The 31-year old crossed from Fremantle to the Magpies at the end of 2016 as a free agent and overcome a difficult start to his career in black and white to be reborn as a reliable wingman.

He has totalled 217 AFL games, including 45 for Collingwood, playing 21 matches in each of the last two seasons.

Pies list boss Ned Guy praised Mayne for his commitment to his footy and teammates.

“Chris is an example to all of his team-mates of what dedication, discipline and football smarts can achieve. He is also a fantastic clubman who people thrive around,” Guy told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“He helps our team tick and for that his team-mates and coaches value him highly. An extension is appropriate recognition of that.”

Mayne was thrilled to extend his stay at the Holden Centre.

“I’m really pleased to have another year to share in the Collingwood experience,” Mayne said.

“The journey so far has been tremendously rewarding, personally and professionally. There have been a few twists in the tale but so much to be grateful for and the faith we have shown in each other makes me very proud.”
