Fremantle defender Lee Spurr has announced he will retire from AFL football, after spending the entire 2018 season on the sidelines.
Spurr's season has been plagued by a knee injury, with his last game for the Dockers coming in round 18, 2017.
The backman played 120 games for Fremantle after joining the club in 2012, and played in their 2013 grand final loss to Hawthorn.
“After seven years I’ve come to the decision with my wife, Olivia, that it’s time for me to retire,” Spurr told fremantle.fc.com.au.
“My body sort of let me down a little bit this year. I’ve had some issues and it was a hard decision.
“I’ve loved my time at the club. It’s really hard to say goodbye and I wish I could play on but for me, my knee is telling me it’s time for me to go and I’ve been battling with that all year.
“The hardest thing has been that I’ve been really close to getting back to playing three or four times this year but my knee hasn’t been able to hold up to the load.”
Spurr was in the club's leadership group between 2014-2017 and won the Best Clubman award in 2013.
The defender was picked up from SANFL club Central Districts, and selected by the Dockers with the eighth pick in the 2012 Rookie Draft.
