Retired ruckman Shane Mumford is considering coming out of retirement, 12 months after calling time on his career.
After a foot injury cut his 10-year, 172-game career short at the end of the 2017 season, the Herald Sun believe Mumford could make a shock return to the Giants, as they continue to struggle with ruck depth.
With Rory Lobb a chance to return to Western Australia and Dawson Simpson playing just 11 games in his two seasons at the Giants, Mumford has reportedly gotten over his foot injury, and would consider making a return to Spotless Stadium.
“No formal discussions have been held with GWS, but if Shane feels that he can play again he’ll consider it as an option,” Anthony McConville (Mumford's agent) of Mac's Sports Promotions told the Herald Sun.
Mumford won a premiership with the Swans in 2012 after playing 17 games that season, and was a mainstay in Sydney's side before making the switch to the Giants.
The 32-year-old spent the last four seasons of his career at the Giants, before moving into an off-field coaching role for the 2018 season.
Mumford was the club's part-time ruck coach, and has remained in a strong condition, and is even a registered professional boxer, with his next fight scheduled in Sydney in November.
Mumford has until November to nominate for the draft, and if he does he'll be open to all 18 games.
If Lobb remains at the Giants he may not be picked up by GWS, although another club might gift him a lifeline.
