Despite a shock victory over Carlton in Round 1, star draftee Sam Lalor said the Richmond players only have eyes for this weekend against Port Adelaide.

The number 1 pick showed his worth against the Blues, gathering 18 disposals along with 2 vital goals for the yellow and black.

The performance earned Lalor the Rising Star nomination for Round 1.

Although he described the match as a "dream scenario," he said the players remain committed to next week.

"A big focus was that we move on - It's just one step in our journey and we're only at the start of our journey," Lalor told the media.

"I think we're really focused on just getting better every week and taking it step by step.

"We've already got some plans for the Port. We're training hard throughout the week."

Lalor couldn't escape further questions over his comparisons to Tiger's great Dustin Martin, particularly with the stocky 18-year-old's ability to impact the scoreboard, in key, decisive moments.

"You gotta earn your stripes and you got to deserve the number," said Lalor when asked if he would consider donning Martin's famous number four.

"If I could be half as good as him I'd be pretty happy, but I don't see too many similarities,  - no one in the club has said anything so that's all I care about."
