Richmond defender Bachar Houli has been handed a two-match ban for striking Carlton's Jed Lamb at the MCG on Sunday.

Houli was reported for this incident involving the Blues forward, which saw him leave the field with concussion, and take no further part in the game.

Houli was sent straight to the AFL Tribunal by the match review panel on Monday, after they graded the incident as intentional and high impact.

The defender argued the contact was careless rather than intentional, but the Tribunal kept the grading as intentional conduct after reviewing the footage.

Houli submitted character references from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Gold Logie-winning television host Waleed Aly.

The 29-year-old will miss Richmond's upcoming matches against Port Adelaide and St Kilda.
