North Melbourne has commenced conversations with the AFL in regard to earning a second successive draft assistance package.

Last year, the last-placed Roos were rewarded with a pair of future draft picks that were then on-traded to help lure Griffin Logue and Darcy Tucker across from Fremantle in a bid to bolster the club's on-field stocks.

The Roos were also afforded the right to add another pair of rookies to their list, allowing ex-Hawks and former Alastair Clarkson pupils Daniel Howe and Liam Shiels to trade Waverley for Arden Street.

After claiming a second successive spoon in 2023, North powerbrokers - including chief executive Jennifer Watt, football manager Todd Viney and strategy boss James Gallagher - met with the league, as per reports from AFL Media's Callum Twomey.

While the league will now consider North's presentation for extra picks, Twomey also reported that this particular sit-down between club and competition lever pullers was not the first of its kind, with the two parties meeting on several occasions across the past few weeks.

Members of the league's brass will reportedly convene during grand final week before delivering a verdict.

The opening round of the 2023 AFL Draft is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 20.

At present, the Roos are currently armed with picks 2, 16, 39, 53, 59 and 76.
