North Melbourne's Tom Powell is the most recent youngster to sign an extension at the club, joining Harry Sheezel in the past month.

Following an impressive start to 2024, Powell has locked himself at Arden Street until the end of 2026, adding a further two years to his contract.

Taken with Pick 13 in the 2020 AFL Draft, the 22-year-old has since dealt with an array of injuries, limiting his game tally to 47.

However, Powell's opening fortnight has been nothing short of impressive, playing career-best football and producing an average of 27 touches, one goal, seven clearances and four tackles.

Kangaroos Head of Football Talent and former player Brady Rawlings is "excited" by the future of Powell and what he can contribute to the club.

"We're excited to have Tom sign on for two more years," Rawlings said.

"Tom had a great pre-season and is primed to take the next steps in his fourth year at the club. He's moved into his preferred inside midfield role, which has seen him among our best players in our opening two games.

"We can't wait to see where he can take his game over the next couple of years."

Powell's recent commitment is another testament to what North Melbourne is currently building.

Speaking on SEN, Sheezel admitted that the path the club is on is "exciting" with a wave of talented youth coming through the ranks together.

"You want a good group of boys with the same goals who drive each other every day at the club," Sheezel.

"Stable coaching staff and leadership at the club, which we have now. Facilities are important... always keeping up to date (with what's needed to excel in professional sport).

"I think the main one is the group and coaching staff we have. I really see the future, I see the light. I'm excited by the challenge of it. Obviously, we're coming from a pretty low base but I can see us achieving that success and that excites me."

However, the Kangaroos have a power of work ahead of them regarding more signatures that need to be done.

The Kangaroos have 19 players coming out of contract by season's end, with Cameron Zurhaar and Bailey Scott the priorities throughout the year.
