St Kilda received optimistic news on the injury front for a number of key players, while Geelong have reported positive updates on a star-studded trio following their win last weekend.

Saints midfielder Dan Hannebery, who is currently battling a sore ankle, is set to be available to play this Friday night against the Brisbane Lions, provided he makes it through main training this week.

Running defender Daniel McKenzie is also a test to play against the Lions, as he continues to nurse a calf ailment.

Midfielder-forward Jack Billings continues to rehab a lumbar disc injury and is expected to be available for selection for the final weekend of the home-and-away season when the Saints take on Sydney.

Meanwhile, according to the Cats' head of medical and conditioning services Harry Taylor, Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield looks to be in the clear.

"Patrick was withdrawn from the game against St Kilda on the weekend after feeling some calf tightness in the pre-match warm-up," Taylor said.

"Pleasingly, scans have revealed no new injury. Patrick has completed running this morning and will be monitored throughout the week to assess his availability."

In other Cats selection news, skipper Joel Selwood and utility Mark Blicavs, who missed Geelong's win over the Saints, are set to be available for the club's clash with Gold Coast this Saturday afternoon.

"Joel Selwood and Mark Blicavs will be available for selection this week after being managed for the game against St Kilda," Taylor added.

The Cats can solidify a first-placed ladder finish with a win over the Suns this weekend, while the Saints' battle with Brisbane represents the first of two do-or-die clashes to try and secure a finals position.
