North Melbourne great David King has proposed a hypothetical trade that could fast-track Collingwoodโs forthcoming rebuild as they may be able to pry pick two back from the Giants.ย
The proposed deal outlined that the Pies could move on from star mid/forward Jordan De Goey and in turn nab back the first-round pick that they traded to GWS in infamous fashion last off-season.
Collingwood is expected to match all bids from rival clubs in order to secure the services of prized father-son prospect Nick Daicos in this coming draft, which as things currently stand will further deplete already, lacking future draft capital as their current highest selection is pick 33.ย
โThe Pies have got to do something to really reboot this rebuild in this trade period. Theyโve traded out effectively pick No.2 in this yearโs draft - last year they gave it to the Giants,โ King described on Fox Footy.
โCan they do something dramatic like offer up a Jordan De Goey to get pick No.2? It may take more - because if they get pick No.2 or even pick No.3 from the Gold Coast Suns they can do deals to ensure those teams above them donโt bid.
โIf they (other clubs) donโt bid, then you get the opportunity to get a young star into your team and then use your points to get Daicos as well.โ

Kingโs proposal would see Collingwood be able to add another highly regarded talent along with Daicos, which would effectively offset the future cost of initially acquiring him. ย
Yet, King continued by alluding to how the Pies could squeeze even more value out of such a trade by asking for additional players to solidify the integrity of the deal.ย
Collingwood has glaring issues in attack as they lack a true full-forward, and desperately need another tall athletic target up the field, which is where young Giant Jake Riccardi may attract some interest.ย
Conversely, King also floated out-of-favour Giants captain Stephen Coniglio as a potential add-on in the deal as GWS could look to offload his huge scary.
Whether the magpies are in the market for another midfielder is debatable, especially one whoโs form is continuing to spiral in the wake of securing a seven-figure deal.ย
โIn the end, if Collingwood can get something done with the Gold Coast Suns or Giants, they could end up with this: They wouldโve lost De Goey, but pick No.2 might be a (Ben) Hobbs or a (Finn) Callaghan or any of these young guns everyoneโs talking about,โ King said.
โThen they use their points for Daicos and theyโd have one of those other add-on players (from the Giants trade) - it might not be the calibre of Coniglio but Riccardi is right in the frame - and also theyโve got last yearโs two picks for forward trading.
โIt could be a boom for them if they could get that done.โ
De Goey is someone Collingwood may consider as a commodity that could land the club an almighty draft and free-agency haul, if their up for the gamble.ย
For example, pulling the trigger and offloading premium ruckman Brodie Grundy would in itself secure an almighty war chest of picks and players that could, in conjunction with De Goey, set the Pies up with stars and depth that could pay dividends in future finals appearances.ย
However, a more conservative approach would be allowing contract midfielder and vice captain Steele Sidebottom to walk, and secure whatever compensation ensues. While this may not have as great of a return as the mentioned trade proposal, it does offer future benefits despite taking away a Premiership veteran from the side.ย
These are the things that Pies must consider though, to Kings point, if they want to spearhead a finals birth as soon as possible.
