Gun Demons recruit Ben Brown will meet with a knee specialist on Wednesday after experiencing swelling in the area.

The 28-year old missed the back half of the 2020 season for the Kangaroos with a knee injury, which appears to still be causing him trouble.

Brown underwent minor knee surgery in September after injuring it the previous month.

The Demons confirmed in a statement on Tuesday night that after having scans Brown would consult a specialist.

โ€œFollowing scans on Monday afternoon, it has been decided that we will get the opinion of knee specialist Julian Feller to determine the best course of action,โ€ Demons general manager of football performance Alan Richardson told Melbourne Media.

โ€œThe club will be in a position to provide further information following Benโ€™s consultation on Wednesday.โ€

Demons great Garry Lyon said on SEN radio on Wednesday morning that the recurring injury should raise alarm bells.

โ€œItโ€™s not ideal, I think is the best way to put it,โ€ Lyon toldย SEN Breakfast.ย

โ€œItโ€™s not ideal if you read between the lines. Thereโ€™s no pain but a lot of swelling.

โ€œSo thereโ€™s something structurally wrong and he wasnโ€™t able to get through last year with a similar problem.

โ€œThatโ€™s not the sort of news that Melbourne fans would be wanting.โ€

Brown was traded from North Melbourne to Melbourne last trade period along with Pick 28 in exchange for Picks 26, 33 and a future fourth rounder.

He has booted 287 goals from 130 AFL games since making his debut in 2014.
