Day three of the 2024 AFL Trade Period saw a handful of new developments as clubs manoeuvred to secure prized talents and critical draft picks.

As clubs continue to strategise and negotiate, the final days of the trade period are sure to bring more big moves and surprises. Stay tuned for further updates as we track each development.

Here's a wrap-up of today's top trade news...

Carlton forward's future in limbo

Carlton forward Matthew Owies remains without a contract for the 2025 season. Despite kicking 33 goals this year, the Blues have yet to extend an offer, instead prioritising other trade period moves.

Owies' agent denied rumours that a high asking price was stalling negotiations, stating, "Money isn't the driving factor".

With no suitors locking him in, Owies might explore options with clubs like West Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast, potentially leaving Carlton during this trade period.

West Coast patient on Reid contract talks

Amid speculation around extending No.1 draft pick Harley Reid's contract, West Coast list manager Matt Clarke emphasised a โ€œcomfortableโ€ pace for negotiations, noting that Reid, 19, needs time to settle in his second year.

Clarke also confirmed ongoing discussions with Hawthorn regarding Tom Barrass, who has requested a trade to the Hawks, though the Eagles expect significant compensation for the contracted defender.

Increased interest in Fremantle's Pick 11

Fremantle's draft assets continue to attract attention, especially Pick 11, which could be involved in a trade for Richmond's Shai Bolton.

Carlton, Collingwood and North Melbourne are keen to trade for this pick as they seek to strengthen their draft position and chances of luring wantaway Port Adelaide star Dan Houston.

With multiple offers coming in, Fremantle is in a prime position to negotiate a beneficial deal.

Richmond ready to move for Brisbane's first pick

Richmond, armed with a slew of picks after the loss of Jack Graham, could aim to secure Brisbane's Pick 20 to add to their growing draft stockpile.

In exchange, the Tigers are could offer selections 32, 42, 43, and 45 to give the Lions extra points for matching a potential bid on father-son talent Levi Ashcroft.

The Lions may consider this deal as they prepare to balance their draft points.

Irish prospect nearing AFL move

The young Kerry star, previously linked to several AFL clubs, appears to be favouring a move to the Cats, joining fellow Irish imports Mark O'Connor and Oisรญn Mullin at Kardinia Park.

Burke's signing would bolster Geelong's Irish contingent following Zach Tuohy's retirement earlier this year.

Bulldog staying put after season of speculation

Riley Garcia, a promising 23-year-old talent for the Western Bulldogs, has officially committed to the Whitten Oval, signing a three-year deal to remain with the club until the end of 2027.

This extension puts to rest year-long speculation about Garcia's potential departure, as clubs like the Sydney Swans, Port Adelaide, West Coast, and North Melbourne had shown strong interest in the young midfielder.

Originally from Western Australia, Garcia faced tempting offers, particularly from the West Coast Eagles, who sought his skills to support their rebuilding midfield.

Sydney also made a late bid after their Grand Final defeat to Brisbane, hoping to add Garcia to their ranks.

Port Adelaide monitored his progress but ultimately focused on Collingwood's Joe Richards.
