The Brisbane Lions are adamant that star midfielder Dayne Beams will be at the club in 2019.

Reports surfaced this week that Beams could be looking to move back to Victoria but Lions CEO Greg Swann says those rumours are completely false.

Swann contacted Beams, Beamsโ€™ manager Paul Connors and Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro, who all said as far as they know, the 28-year-old is staying at Brisbane.

โ€œI actually rang Beamsy just for the record and asked him โ€˜Are you settled?โ€™ and he said he wasn't going anywhere,โ€™โ€™ Swann told The Herald Sun.

โ€œHow can I say this nicely โ€ฆ he strongly refuted it. Thatโ€™s all I wanted to know โ€ฆ itโ€™s rubbish.โ€™โ€™

The Lions chief executive then contacted Dodoro.

โ€œHe said, โ€˜Mate, are you serious? We havenโ€™t spoken to himโ€™โ€, Swann recounted.

He then rang Connors.

โ€œI asked him if any club had rung him about Beams and he said nobody.โ€™โ€™

Swann then spoke to Beams who said โ€œitโ€™s rubbish and as a matter of fact Iโ€™ll ring Paul to tell him to tell the media bloke to pull his head inโ€.

The rumour was originally reported on Monday night on Channel Sevenโ€™s Talking Footy and was followed up on social media.

โ€œIt was raised twice,โ€™โ€™ Swann said.

โ€œThe first time we didnโ€™t bother with it and the next time it had a bit more detail about Essendon, so I thought Iโ€™d round this up and tie it in a nice little bow.

โ€œIt always comes in the bye weekend when thereโ€™s not a lot to talk about.

โ€œYou can set your clock by it.โ€

Beams has been in terrific form this season but had to relinquish captaincy of the Lions to focus more on mental health and grief issues but Swann says he is doing well.

โ€œHeโ€™s going all right, his wife is due Monday week I think, so yeah heโ€™s going all right.โ€
