Brisbane have confirmed the unfortunate news that ruckman Oscar McInerney will miss Saturday's grand final against Sydney due to a shoulder injury.

On multiple occasions during last weekend's win over Geelong the Lions big man was seen to have dislocated his shoulder, with McInerney subbed out of the contest following a second concern.

Scans have since confirmed enough damage that will place McInerney out of action for this week at the very least.

The injury blow means the Lions will be forced into at least one change for the season decider, with fringe ruckman Darcy Fort likely to take McInerney's place in Chris Fagan's side ahead of youngster Henry Smith.

Brisbane will have utility Bruce Reville available for selection for Saturday's game at the MCG following a minor hamstring issue sustained in the VFL earlier this month.

While Reville is unlikely to be selected in Fagan's side to face the Swans, the rookie Lion could make the trip down to Melbourne as part of the extended squad as an emergency.

Darragh Joyce, Harry Sharp, Brandon Ryan and Smith are among the leading options to also be on standby.

Brisbane and Sydney will name their sides for Saturday's grand final on Thursday at 6:20pm (AEST), with final teams to be confirmed an hour prior to the game's 2:30pm start time.
