The Brisbane Lions have announced the delistings of three players following the conclusion of this year's free agency and trade period, while they have also reportedly signed a new assistant coach for the 2024 campaign.
Out-of-contract trio Rhys Mathieson, Blake Coleman, and Darryl McDowell White Jr. will not receive contracts for next season, ceasing their tenures at Springfield.
Mathieson did not play a senior game for Brisbane this year after managing ten games -- three of which were finals appearances -- in 2022, while Coleman, the younger brother of rising defender Keidean, was unable to manage a maiden AFL game.
McDowell-White Jr. was also untried after arriving as a Category B rookie at the start of the season.
Brisbane football boss Danny Daly expressed his thanks to the trio for their efforts and contribution over the course of their Lions stints.
"Rhys has really ridden the highs and lows since he joined the Lions and definitely helped play a role in assisting the Club to rise up the ladder," Daly said as part of a Friday afternoon club statement.
"He has been a much-loved member of the Club and popular with our fans due to the type of person he has been on and off the field and we are grateful for his time here.
"Blake and DJ (McDowell-White Junior) are two players who had some real talent, but unfortunately due to the Club having so many strong forwards at AFL level, they were not able to push their way into the team.
"The Club would like to thank all three players for their contribution to the Brisbane Lions and we wish them and their families all the best for the future."
The three list changes are in addition to the recent retirements of Marcus Adams, Daniel Rich, and Nakia Cockatoo, and follow Brisbane's acquisitions of Tom Doedee and Brandon Ryan during the free agency and trade period.
Brisbane has also reportedly hired 2016 premiership Bulldog Dale Morris as its new backline coach.
According to Seven reporter Mitch Cleary on Friday evening, Morris, who was working with the Lions' VFL outfit as a development coach, will join Brisbane's senior brigade next season.
