Brisbane is eyeing off former Gold Coast forward Sam Day as a replacement for the retired Joe Daniher.

The Lions weren't left with much time to foster any potential trades as Daniher decided to hang up the boots officially following the club's premiership win over Sydney less than a month ago.

As a result, the club is looking at low-budget players who could fill the void left by the 30-year-old.

Along with Day, Brisbane considered making a play for St Kilda free agent Tim Membrey, according to the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph.

The inaugural Sun had struggled to cement his spot in the senior side and was ultimately left out of the club's plans for 2025 and beyond.

Day's played 155 games since 2011 for Gold Coast, with only 18 coming from the past four campaigns.

However, the 32-year-old has been open about continuing his career.

"I feel like I have a lot to give both physically and mentally," Day said earlier this season, according to News Corp.

"I absolutely want to go around again, I'm definitely motivated.

"A couple of long-term friends have said, ‘you're the happiest you've ever been', which I attribute to footy and family life as well.

"I just have that upbeat spring in my step at the moment, and I'm really enjoying going to work."

Day kicked 20 goals in eight VFL games in 2024 and would pose as a moneyball forward-ruck option to assist Oscar McInerney.
