Brisbane star Josh Dunkley says he "wouldn't change much" of the pre-season schedule despite it quickly becoming an area of contention.
Calls for both the summer training blocks to be lengthened, and shortened, amid a proposed injury crisis, have the league looking at ways to improve the pre-season.
Whether that be reducing contact drills or potentially changing the amount of time the players spend at the clubs has been raised.
But Dunkley, an admitted competitor, loves how the summer schedule looks so far, despite the Queensland club's earlier start in Opening Round for the second year running.
"In pre-season, we play practice games anyway," Dunkley said to reporters on Sunday.
"You're still playing games of footy. So, the more you get to play against opposition... You don't go as hard at each other (teammates) because you don't want to hurt each other.
"But when you play opposition, it's more game like.
"I wouldn't change much at the moment."
The number of injuries that have occurred over the pre-season has been a cause for concern.
League boss Andrew Dillon refuses to bite into the narrative that there's an increase of injuries, opting to wait until all the data can be collected.
Former players have differing opinions on the matter, with Lions legend Jonathon Brown saying clubs are training too early, which can be a cause of the rising number of soft-tissue injuries.
Whereas expert commentator and Port Adelaide premiership player Kane Cornes believes that players don't spend enough time around the club's performance team.
