Just two rounds remain in season seven of AFLW, with the race to the minor premiership still as tight as ever.

Brisbane, Melbourne and Collingwood remain on top with 28 points to their name, with the Lions boasting an impressive percentage in their number one spot.

Daisy Pearce hit a milestone as the Swans showed that progress isn't always about points on the board, here are some of our thoughts from Round 8 of the AFLW season.

Lions roar in blockbuster clash

The Lions handed Adelaide just their second loss for the year in convincing fashion, running out 22-point victors.

The clash between the two had been billed as a not to be missed spectacle, and while the result wasn't as close as some were expecting, it did plenty for the premiership conversation. Brisbane solidified their title as premiership favourites with two rounds remaining in the regular season with their performance, kicking eight goals from 40 inside 50's.

Daisy celebrates game 50 in style

Daisy Pearce has been a hallmark of the AFLW competition since its inauguration, earning numerous accolades throughout her time in the game. Pearce reached the 50-game milestone during Round 8's match against Gold Coast, with her Demons toasting their champion in style.

The 34-year-old ended the 49-point win with 11 disposals, two tackles and a goal as the Dees ran rampant; securing second spot on the ladder as the club cast their eyes towards the finals series in what could be Pearce's last season.

Points are close for fledgling Swansย

Sydney remains the last winless team in season seven, with their fellow expansion sides Essendon, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide enjoying various degrees of success throughout the opening eight rounds.

The Swans have had their fair share of big losses, losing by a combined 173 points in their opening month of AFLW football, while Round 6's 11-goal loss to North saw Sydney register just a single point in four quarters. But Round 8's narrow four-point loss to Essendon was perhaps the young side's strongest performance so far, coming against a potential finals contender.

Sofia Hurley impressed with 12 disposals, 6 tackles and two goals as the Swans pressured the Bombers to the final siren. With two rounds left, set to face the 17th-placed Fremantle and the finals-bound Cats, Sydney is building towards their maiden AFLW win.

Tigers are in finals form

Sitting just a game (and a significant chunk of percentage) behind the ladder-leading Lions, the Tigers currently possess the longest winning streak in the competition, having not suffered a defeat since Round 2. In fact, Richmond's only two losses in season seven came in the opening two weeks of the competition.

Richmond is yet to play finals since their debut in the AFLW competition back in 2020, that streak now not only looks certain to end, but the Tigers have a real shot at climbing into the top four with matches against GWS and North left to round out their season.
