Zero Hanger's weekly trade news wrap is back ahead of the off-season, with the latest AFL trade news, rumours and analysis all coming in one place.

The past week has seen trade talk reach another gear as clubs begin to plan their lists for the future, with a number of players tipped to be on the verge of requesting moves elsewhere ahead of the exchange window.

Hawthorn and Essendon are among the busier clubs this year, with the key defender market a large cog in the player movement space.

Here's all the latest trade news from the past week!

Brockman could seek move home

Hawthorn youngster Tyler Brockman is seen likely to request a move to Western Australia in a move that would see the small forward return to his home state.

Brockman is still unsigned for 2024 and could seek a move to the Eagles after speaking with West Coast premiership forward Liam Ryan.

According to a report by Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph on Friday afternoon, the Hawks are thought to be 'bracing' for Brockman's trade request, with the West Coast Eagles expected to be the livewire forward's landing spot.

Hawks to enter race for in-demand defender

A fourth rival club is understood to be showing interest in North Melbourne free agent Ben McKay, with Hawthorn named as the latest suitor for the Roos backman.

According to AFL.com.au, Hawthorn are showing some level of interest in McKay's services as they too look to bolster their backline.

Port Adelaide, Sydney and Essendon have also been linked to the off-contract Kanagroo this year as he looks destined to leave Arden Street.

The players Sydney could target

We've listed five players the Swans could consider come the 2023 trade period, with key defenders, a ruckman and an inside onballer all named.

Richmond's Jack Graham would be an unlikely trade piece for Sydney, but could help inside the engine room under John Longmire as a first ball user.

Free agent Ben McKay and Essendon's Nick Bryan are also among the players the Swans could target to better their list.

Harmes' agent confirms interest from rival

The manager of contracted Demon James Harmes has confirmed rivals have made contact to understand the midfielder's status for the future.

Harmes has struggled to cement his place in the Demons' senior side this year but has been prolific at VFL level, leading the onballer to assess his options for 2024.

Despite being signed for next season, Harmes could find a new home this off-season, with his agent Tim Hazell telling AFL.com.au's Gettable that there is interest in his client.

Essendon flagged as potential landing spot for Saint

St Kilda free agent Jade Gresham has been heavily tied to Carlton this year, but with the Blues' interest in the Saint reportedly cooling, Essendon could be the next club in line for the South Morang junior.

Gresham is among a suite of Saints still unsigned for next year and is seen to be weighing up his future - with the 26-year-old able to exercise his rights as a free agent in 2023.

Speaking on the Tradies Podcast this week, AFL reporter Mitch Cleary said Essendon could be a club to watch in regard to Gresham's future.

Defender to consider options after Crows low-ball

Adelaide free agent Tom Doedee is understood to be weighing up his options after reportedly being tabled a 'modest' offer from the Crows.

Doedee is currently sidelined with an ACL injury and is likely to miss the start of next season, with talks over his future ongoing with the Crows despite the setback.

Come August, though, Adelaide's latest offer is reportedly 'well short' of the initial olive branch, according to a report by the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph on Tuesday.

Five names the Saints could look at

St Kilda will be an intriguing player in this year's off-season space as Ross Lyon enters his first trade period since returning to the helm of Moorabbin.

Bayside talent has been flagged as an area of interest to the Saints, however few names that are off-contract fall in the category.

Among them is Richmond defender Hugo Ralphsmith, who is yet to confirm his future at Punt Road beyond this year.

Eagles offer young Lion long-term deal

West Coast are understood to have tabled a four-year deal to Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson, who could mull over a move back to Western Australia.

The Lions onballer has found opportunities hard to come by in 2023, mostly due to the additions of Will Ashcroft and Josh Dunkley through last year's recruitment window.

With the Eagles wanting to bolster their list while having an eye on local talent, Robertson has emerged as a potential target.

According to SEN's Tom Morris, West Coast, as well as Brisbane, have tabled a contract offer to Robertson.

Cats coach keen to retain highly-rated backman

Keen rival clubs will likely need to part ways with a decent package to secure off-contract Cat Esava Ratugolea this trade period.

Ratugolea has gained reported suitors in Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Essendon this year, but is very highly rated by Geelong coach Chris Scott, who won't want to see the swingman depart for a low price.
