Luckless Kangaroo reserves player Brayden George has suffered another setback after going down with a knee injury during the Kangaroos' 41-point victory in the VFL on Sunday.
The 20-year-old forward landed awkwardly in a marking contest late in the first term and did not return to the field.
The news, posted by North Melbourne reserves' Twitter page, is a significant blow to George's hopes of cracking the the senior team in the near future, especially given his tumultuous injury history.
George's AFL career has been marred by injuries since his draft year. Initially tipped as a top-10 draft pick in 2022, George slid to pick 26 after tearing his ACL, causing him to miss the entire 2023 season.
Earlier this year, George's injury woes continued when he dislocated his elbow in a freak gym accident, resulting in surgery and another prolonged recovery period. This latest knee injury compounds a frustrating run for George, who has shown promise and resilience throughout his brief career.
Last year, interim coach Brett Ratten praised George's potential during a member Q&A, suggesting that George could be one of the most talented players in his draft class.
"He could be the most talented out of this year's crop. Brayden has got some real strong AFL attributes—beautiful kick, long, strong, good size, powerful, and goes to win his own footy," Ratten said.
North Melbourne will provide an update in the coming days in the full diagnosis of the injury.
