Nick Coffield has suffered another delay in his return to the field, re-injuring his calf during his recovery.

The 23-year-old hasn't featured for the Saints since Round 23, 2021, sidelined with an ACL injury before injuring his calf. The young Saint's return is now expected to be between 6-8 weeks away.

“This is a frustrating setback for Nick. He's an important part of our playing list, so he'll continue his rehab with the full support of the group,” St Kilda's Acting General Manager of Football David Misson said.

Coffield made his debut for the Saints in 2018 after being selected with Pick No.8 in the 2017 National Draft, having played 52 games for the club since.

In better news, St Kilda welcomed back Jack Steele and Tim Membrey in Round 6's win over Carlton, with the once lengthy summer injury list starting to shorten.

Max King, who kicked 52 goals in 22 matches last season, is expected to play before the bye, with the club putting his estimated return 3-4 weeks away.

Meanwhile, Zak Jones (achilles) and Jimmy Webster (cheekbone) are both expected to return in the coming weeks.

Dan McKenzie (calf), Matthew Allison (foot) and Angus McLennan (back) all remain on the injury list indefinitely.

The Saints currently sit on top of the ladder with a 5-1 record, set to face Port Adelaide in prime time on Friday night to solidify their spot atop the standings.
