Ross Lyon is understood to have withdrawn his candidacy for the vacant Carlton senior coaching position, as reported by The Age's Caroline Wilson.
Wilson's report states Lyon notified Blues president Luke Sayers that he would not continue discussions with the club following a change to Carlton's selection process.
The former St Kilda and Fremantle coach was tipped to take over the reigns at Ikon Park after the Blues sacked David Teague with a year remaining on his contract.
Lyon is the latest name linked to Carlton that has been removed from contention, with the likes of Alastair Clarkson and Nathan Buckley not opting to continue in the coaching landscape for the 2022 season.
Wilson also revealed her report of Carlton's interest in former Kangaroos coach Brad Scott, who has been linked to the AFL's General Manager of Football job, on Footy Classified on Wednesday night.
“This is not ‘the Carlton Football Club is appointing Ross Lyon’, which is the way we felt Luke Sayers was leaning," Wilson said.
“I don’t know whether Brad Scott is going to be part of this process, but I know there has been some interest from Carlton.
Blues legend Greg Williams and board members Tim Lincoln and Patty Kinnersly, football boss Brad Lloyd, CEO Cain Little and former Blues premiership coach David Parkin are leading the clubs' sub-committee to find a new senior coach to succeed Teague.
Former Brisbane Lions senior coach Michael Voss, who had been interviewed for the recently vacant Magpie role, could be the next best option for the Blues should Scott opt to remain at AFL House.
