The Melbourne Cup carnival comes to its crescendo this weekend with Mackinnon Stakes Day wrapping up what has been an incredible carnival with some terrific omen bets.
As we bow out for another spring, let's do our best to go out on a high and find a few more cheeky omen bets to end Melbourne Cup week.
1- Homesman- Geelong
Homesman is a tough old boy who will lead most of the way and give his all but may just find this level a bit too classy and quick for him. Sound familiar Cats fans? He is also draped in blue with a white hoop on the sleeves.
2- Cascadian- Carlton
In nothing but blue, Cascadian could give Carlton fans a familiar feeling. He will be looking every bit the winner at some point as he always does. But odds are he will find a way to get beaten.
3- Superstorm- West Coast and Fremantle
The Western Australian representative will carry the flag for the WA contingent in the Mackinnon Stakes. Has been huge over here in Victoria and WA fans should be excited about another raid.
4- Zaaki- Melbourne
The red and the blue have been on fire this season and Zaaki could carry the red and blue back to trophy holding glory. He will start favourite just as the Dees did so Melbourne fans can stick fat with a favourite.
5- Keiai Nautique- Gold Coast
The rank outsider as the Suns have been for some time now. If one roughie can win why can't they all?
6- Dalasan- Adelaide and Port Adelaide
The South Australian raider is as honest as they come. He's unlikely to win here but Power and Crows fans will be right to support their local runner.
7- Mo'unga- Sydney
One of the key New South Wales hopes is Mo'unga. Swans fans would be well served to follow their home town hero and take another Melbourne Group 1 across the border.
8- Private Eye- Richmond
There may be no more private player than Dustin Martin. Or at least none that are as publically sought out as Dusty. Richmond fans can feel a connection to Martin unlike any others and they can feel connected to Private Eye in this one.
9- Colette- Collingwood
Both Colette and Scott Pendlebury look as glamourous as any of their competitors in the wet. It all just becomes so easy for them when the rain comes down. It's set to come down on Saturday too!
10- Hungry Heart- GWS
Another Sydney sider for the locals to get excited about around GWS. Hungry Heart is also a fair assessment of the Giants win over the Swans in the 2021 elimination final. It was all heart and that has been a characteristic of the Giants for their existence.
