Off-contract Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott has begun talks with the club over a new deal.

Last year the star forward started spending more time in the midfield and has brought his game to another level.

The 29-year-old has given the Pies a new look in the midfield and in the forward 50, rating at an elite level for his disposals and tackles this season.

The Murray Bushrangers export has battled injuries through his career but when fit, he is arguably one of Collingwood's most important players.

His ability to play tall and small in attack makes him a handful for the opposition, and a key commodity for a side lacking a genuine key forward.

Elliott's signature would be the Magpies' biggest priority now, alongside Jordan De Goey, following yesterday's re-signing of All-Australian defender Darcy Moore.

7 News' Mitch Cleary revealed on Thursday that talks between Elliott and the Magpies have begun, while Collingwood are set to turn their attention toward De Goey's future.

This comes after Collingwood have also re-signed a quintet of youngsters in Charlie Dean, Jack Ginnivan, Aiden Begg, Beau McCreery and Reef McInnes.

Collingwood will seek their third win of the season on Saturday night as they host the Eagles at Marvel Stadium.
