Melbourne great Garry Lyon has said the AFL should make the wages of its players public.
AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh said last week on AFL Trade Radio he would not be against releasing the player wages to the public, saying it may lead to wages rising "significantly."
Marsh however was cautious of the impact public wages may have on a player's mental health.
Speaking on SEN, Lyon said it would be easier to assess player trades if the public knew the wages of the people moving.
“As I was reading through various stuff about trades and who is going to go where for what and all that, all of it is great but how can we make an assessment on what’s a good trade and what’s not a good trade if we don’t know how much money the players are getting paid?” Lyon said.
“I think player wages should be made public.”
Lyon added it would help the public know how clubs such as GWS have a salary cap squeeze to fix in the off-season.
