Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd has revealed his top five after-the-siren goals.
Speaking onย AFL.com.au,ย Lloyd explained that every kid growing up dreams of kicking a big goal after the final siren has sounded.
"Unfortunately for me, I had a shot against the Western Bulldogs on a big Friday night and I fluffed it," he said.
"These five shots were ones I'll never forget where blokes absolutely nailed it after the siren."
Lloyd counted down from 5-1โฆ
1. Gary Buckenara vs. Melbourne (Preliminary Final, 1987)
Lloyd said: "The reason I have this kick at number one with Gary Buckenara is for the drama, it was the moment I started to love football in 1987. Just seeing Jimmy Stynes run through the mark, Buckenara get the 15 meter penalty.
"Dipper rests his head on the shoulder of Gary Buckenara, so the pressure he must have felt at that time when you know it's to get into a grand final. For him to go back with the confidence that he had and just slot it through, and just see the heartbreak on Melbourne and the joy of Hawthorn into another grand final. That one lives with me most fondly for the greatest kick after the siren that I've ever seen."
