Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has named the top five forwards in his lifetime.

Speaking onย AFL.com.au,ย Lloyd believes these fowards that will go down as the best to play the game that he's seen.

Lloyd counted down from 5-1...

3. Gary Ablett Snr.

Lloyd said: "A killer instinct, Ablett. If you stood in his way, he would make you pay. He would hit that ball as hard as I've ever seen."

"Everyone knows how good Ablett was for Geelong, but I also admire Ablett for his ability to play for Victoria. One of the great Victoria performers I've seen on the big stage."

"We know the special marks he could take, but Ablett was a great wingman also at the start of his career. So he could play anywhere, but then went to full-forward later in his career and still kicked over a thousand goals."

"I think his highlights package is as good as any player the game's ever seen."

"In terms of highlights reel, hitting the ball hard, everything you can do as an AFL player, Ablett's talents were as good as anybody's."
