Gold Coast co-captain Steven May is expecting to sign a contract extension in the coming weeks after telling reporters on Tuesday talks were "all positive."

May's contract is up at the end of the current season, and was reportedly the subject of interest from a number of Victorian clubs, including Hawthorn.

However, May rubbished speculation on Tuesday during a press conference, and told journalists a new deal would be signed within a month.

"Talks are going well and, hopefully pretty soon, something should get done," May said.

"I'm very confident.

"The CBA is done now so hopefully in the coming weeks, maybe sooner, we should hear something."

The 25-year-old said he never even considered moving away from the Suns, given he's been at the club since their inception.

"It's funny, sometimes you read an article that you're linked to a club you've never spoken to," May said.

"I guess that's all part of it.

"Coming out of contract and being a new captain it's always going to be a talking point, but no, that hasn't been something I've addressed.

"That's just media speculation.

"I'm not Nat Fyfe or Dustin Martin and they're in the media every day, so I'm pretty lucky in that sense.

"It is amusing sometimes."

May has played 11 games for the Suns so far this season, and will play his 100th for the club when they host North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
