AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan says Hayden Ballantyne being caught using his mobile phone last Friday during the Dockers' win over Richmond serves a wake up call for players.
Ballantyne was caught on camera using his phone in the change rooms after going off the ground with an injury in his side's NAB Challenge match last weekend.
The incident, which breaches AFL integrity rules, serves as a reminder to players of the league's zero tolerance approach to breaches during the season proper McLachlan said on Monday.
"I think that every case is different," McLachlan told 3AW radio.
"The point is that I think the players need to wake up.
"It's the first time we've had one of these … I think everyone instinctively feels he was calling family and friends.
"But there's only so many chances you get and home and away is different, and the context is different.
"There will be a significantly different outcome than I think will happen this time.
"Whether that's fines, suspensions or other, that's up to the integrity guys."
